APWEN Industrial Tour Enhances Engineering Students' Skills

The Association of Professional Women Engineers Nigeria (APWEN) Lagos Chapter organized an industrial tour for engineering students from the University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology. The tour aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in modern road construction, specifically focusing on reinforced concrete pavement design.

Omolola Ogungbil emphasized that this technology can significantly extend road lifespan compared to conventional asphalt methods. The tour, which is part of a project commencing in April 2025 with a 24-month duration, has already reached 60% completion within one year.

Students observed structural design elements and learned about load transfer mechanisms, enhancing their understanding of academic materials in real-life construction processes. Bless Esabu, a 200-level computer engineering student, expressed gratitude for the exposure, noting the importance of innovative techniques in improving engineering outcomes.

Ogungbil encouraged students to remain dedicated to their studies and avoid distractions to prepare for future leadership roles in the engineering sector.
