INEC Adjusts Osun Guber Election Campaign Timeline

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced an adjustment to the campaign timeline for the Osun State governorship election, now set to conclude at midnight on August 13, 2026, in accordance with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026. This change was communicated by INEC Chairman Mohammed Haruna, emphasizing the need for political parties to adhere strictly to the revised timeline.

Concurrently, the Labour Party (LP), represented by Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, expressed concerns over the appointment of Mr.

Toyin Babalola as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun State, replacing Mr. Mutiu Agbok.

Arabambi criticized the decision as a threat to democracy, alleging that it allows partisan political actors to influence electoral management. He referenced constitutional provisions regarding the appointment and removal of REC, asserting that INEC Chairman Prof.

Joash Amupitan lacks the authority to remove Agbok without proper justification. The LP has called for an investigation into these actions to ensure fair electoral processes.
