INEC Audits Labour Party for 2027 Elections Compliance

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced a comprehensive verification exercise of the Labour Party on Wednesday, aimed at ensuring compliance with statutory requirements ahead of the 2027 general elections. The audit, led by Mansur Hassan, focuses on the party's leadership structure, membership registration, financial records, and proof of tenancy for its secretariat in Abuja.

Hassan emphasized that the mission extends beyond routine monitoring, aiming to verify the party's membership and compliance with its constitution. The Labour Party is currently facing internal leadership disputes, with interim national chairman Nenadi Usman expressing readiness for the audit and urging unity among party factions, particularly those led by Julius Abur and Lamidi Apapa.

Usman highlighted the importance of rebuilding the party's structure and leadership to ensure its effectiveness in the upcoming electoral cycle. The verification process is part of INEC's ongoing regulatory checks to maintain the integrity of political parties in Nigeria.
