Peter Obi Accuses INEC Chairman of Bias in 2023 Elections

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), alleged that Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), worked for his political opposition during the 2023 elections. In an interview with Arise News, Obi expressed that Nigerians had placed their trust in INEC, believing in the commission's assurances for a fair electoral process.

He stated that this trust led to complacency among voters, which he claimed would not be repeated in the upcoming 2027 elections. Obi criticized Yakubu for convincing both Nigerians and the international community that he would conduct the elections fairly, while he alleged that Yakubu was actually aligned with the opposition.

Obi emphasized the need for Nigerians to take responsibility for ensuring fair elections, stating, “This time, we will only trust them by doing the right thing ourselves.”.
