INEC Redeploys Anugbum Onuoha as Akwa Ibom REC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has redeployed Anugbum Onuoha as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Akwa Ibom State, effective April 17, 2026. Onuoha, who is a cousin of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, previously served as REC in Edo State, where he oversaw the 2024 governorship elections.

His handover ceremony took place at the INEC office in Uyo, with Obo Effanga present. This redeployment is part of INEC's routine staff movement.

Anugbum Onuoha has also held various political administrative roles in Rivers State, including serving as a special adviser on land survey to Wike. The redeployment comes after appointments made by President Bola Tinubu in 2023, which included ten REC appointments.
