INEC Appoints New REC for Rivers State Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appointed Dr. Johnson Sinikiem as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Rivers State.

This announcement was made on a Wednesday, and it follows a meeting held at the INEC headquarters in Port Harcourt, where Sinikiem expressed appreciation to the staff for their cordial reception upon his return. Geraldin Ekelemu, the head of the Voter Education and Publicity department in Rivers State, confirmed Sinikiem's appointment.

In conjunction with this change, INEC has initiated an update of the voters' register, scheduled from April 29 to May 5, 2023. This exercise aims to facilitate the registration, transfer, and updating of voter details, while also allowing for the verification of information and correction of errors.

INEC encourages registered voters to participate in this process to ensure a credible voter register in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
