INEC Launches Tracker for 2027 Election Readiness

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced plans to deploy a real-time operational tracker to monitor election preparations across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 General Election. INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, made this announcement on Monday, 7th September 2026, during a two-day Strategic Operational Workshop for Administrative Secretaries at the Marriott Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.

The workshop aims to produce a standardized Excel-based Administrative Secretary Master Operational Tracker Template, which will be linked to the Commission’s Election Monitoring and Support Centre (EMSC) dashboard. This new tool is intended to provide immediate updates on material distribution, ad-hoc staff training, and state-level readiness, facilitating proactive management.

The initiative is part of broader preparations as the National Register of Voters approaches 100 million. The workshop also focuses on five operational areas, including Continuous Voter Registration and logistics management.

Prof. Amupitan emphasized the importance of building on experiences from recent elections, while the Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, highlighted the need for uniformity in the Election Project Plan.
