Osun APC Disowns Unauthorized Petition Against Adeleke

On September 7, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State publicly disowned a petition that was purportedly filed by its governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15 governorship election. The APC clarified that the legal action was not authorized by either the candidate or the party.

This controversy arose after Oyebamiji had congratulated Adeleke, and the APC's legal team had decided against challenging the election results in court. Adekunle Adegoke (SAN), a leader of the APC legal team, stated that while they identified potential grounds for a petition, they advised against litigation to maintain peace and avoid prolonged political tension.

Adegoke emphasized that the decision was made in the interest of the people of Osun State and that Oyebamiji accepted this recommendation without pressure. He argued that it would be inconsistent for Oyebamiji to authorize a petition after congratulating Adeleke.
