Oyo Assembly Cancels Anniversary Due to Security Concerns

The Oyo State House of Assembly has officially canceled its planned celebrations for its third anniversary, which was set to take place on June 14, 2023. This decision was announced during a plenary session on Thursday, citing worsening security situations, particularly in the Ogbomoso area, as the primary reason for the cancellation.

Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin stated that the current period is not suitable for celebrations, given the ongoing security threats faced by residents. The Assembly has expressed its commitment to legislative responsibilities despite these challenges, having passed thirty-six bills and transmitted 276 resolutions to the executive arm for implementation.

Ogundoyin also mentioned the need for a review of existing laws, including the 2019 Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law and the 2020 Oyo State Security Agency Law, to assess their effectiveness. Furthermore, the Assembly plans to engage stakeholders through a security summit to address persistent security concerns across the state.
