IOM and Edo State Reintegrate 9,000 Migrants Successfully

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Edo State Government have successfully reintegrated 9,000 repatriated migrants. During a courtesy visit to Governor Okpebholo on Monday, IOM Chief Mission in Nigeria, Ms.

Dimanch Sharon, highlighted the collaboration aimed at empowering youth, noting that 500,000 individuals have benefited from skill development programs. Sharon commended the Edo State Government for its proactive measures to combat irregular migration and reduce poverty, emphasizing the importance of reintegrating returnees into society.

The administration aims to focus on livelihood skills and entrepreneurship, with plans to explore further IOM support to link digital skills to employment opportunities. Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed the administration's commitment to collaborating with IOM to curb irregular migration and highlighted the historical context of cult-related violence in Edo State, which has contributed to migration issues.

He emphasized ongoing efforts to maintain safety and peace, creating an environment conducive to business growth and peaceful living.
