IPOB Remembers Violence Against Members in Southeast Nigeria

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) issued a statement recalling the violence faced by its members in Southeastern Nigeria, particularly among the Igbo ethnic group. Activist Macborn Uchechukwu Donatu, the welfare coordinator for IPOB, expressed concerns over the precarious situation for civilians and activists advocating for self-determination.

He referenced several past incidents, including a 2016 demonstration where many were reportedly injured or killed, and a 2017 military exercise in Afara Ibeku, Abia State, that resulted in casualties and trauma within the community. Donatu stressed the importance of remembering these events to recognize the value of human life and to ensure the dignity and safety of the community today.

He reaffirmed IPOB's commitment to non-violent advocacy for the rights of the Igbo people to express their cultural and political identity peacefully, emphasizing that such advocacy is not a crime and should be protected by society.
