ISWAP Leadership Crisis Deepens with Executions and Reshuffles

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) is experiencing significant internal tensions due to leadership changes and disciplinary actions initiated by its Wali, Baa Shuwa. Reports indicate that Baa Shuwa ordered the execution of Yaa Saleh, a senior member of the Shura Council and Zakkah Amir for parts of Gudumbali, Kareto, and Gubio, due to his repeated disregard for directives.

This incident follows the killing of three other prominent ISWAP fighters and reflects growing concerns over loyalty and command discipline within the group. Additionally, ISWAP has undergone a major reshuffle of senior commanders, particularly among Buduma-dominated structures.

Yaku Abu Adam has been promoted to a senior Jaish leadership role, while his former deputy, Abubakar Bashihuba, has assumed his previous responsibilities. The changes are perceived as efforts to reinforce loyalty and prevent defections.

Furthermore, ISWAP's internal financing structure indicates substantial operational allocations for senior commanders, while lower ranks receive smaller payments, highlighting the group's resource constraints and reliance on illegal activities for funding.
