Jigawa Government Forms Committee for Transit Herders

The Jigawa State Government has approved the formation of a high-level committee tasked with developing a framework for the registration of transit herders. This initiative aims to promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and pastoralists in Jigawa State.

Hon. Sagir Musa Ahmad, the State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, announced this decision following a State Executive Council meeting.

The committee will focus on establishing a comprehensive registration system for herders, particularly those returning from grazing in the Republic of Niger after the rainy season. The committee is also responsible for enhancing security, improving livestock management, and supporting public health measures.

It will review the proposed registration process and recommend strategies to foster harmonious relationships between farming and pastoral communities. The committee is chaired by the Secretary to the State Government and includes various commissioners and the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor.

The Permanent Secretary, Special Services, will serve as the committee's secretary.
