PDP Factions Clash Over Jonathan's Candidacy Ratification

A conflict has erupted within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the ratification ceremony for former President Goodluck Jonathan's presidential candidacy, set for May 30 at a venue in Wuse 2, Abuja. The interim national working committee, led by Tanimu Turaki, insists that the ceremony will proceed as planned.

However, factional tensions have surfaced, with allegations that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, threatened to shut down the event venue unless the PDP was allowed to use it. A statement from the party, signed by interim national public secretary Ini Ememobong, accused Wike of attempting to mislead the public and create confusion.

The PDP has urged its members and the public to disregard false information and reaffirmed that it successfully concluded its primary elections in accordance with INEC guidelines. Additionally, the party distanced itself from a separate statement that falsely claimed Jonathan's candidacy lacked proper endorsement.
