Police Blockade Venue for Jonathan's Candidacy Ratification

Police established a barricade around the proposed venue for the ratification of Goodluck Jonathan's candidacy, following a threat from Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister. The event was initially set to take place at a public facility in Area 10, Abuja.

However, Kabiru Turaki, leading a faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), disclosed that the convention would be relocated due to the police's actions. The situation developed amid a lingering leadership crisis within the PDP, which has seen a split into rival factions.

The Turaki-led group insisted on proceeding with the special convention to ratify Jonathan's candidacy. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier directed the owner of the event center to prevent access to the venue, warning against hosting activities deemed unauthorized.

Despite the police blockade, the Turaki faction maintained that necessary arrangements would be made to conclude the convention.
