PDP Faction Defies FCTA Threats Over Jonathan's Candidacy

The Taminu Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has asserted that the ratification of former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate will take place as scheduled on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the Class Event Centre in Wuse 2, Abuja. This statement comes in response to threats from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to shut down the venue.

The PDP claims that the FCTA's threats are an attempt to frustrate their plans and suppress political dissent. The party has communicated with the event center management, emphasizing that they have fulfilled all requirements for the venue, including payment and security notifications.

The PDP argues that the FCTA does not have the constitutional authority to determine whether political events can be held in the nation's capital. The FCTA had previously warned venue owners against permitting illegal gatherings, stating that failure to comply could result in the revocation of property titles.
