Nigerian Military Denies Cover-Up in Jos Attack Claims

The Nigerian military, represented by the Joint Task Force (JTF), has publicly denied allegations made by a local youth leader that they provided cover for the perpetrators of an attack in Jos on Palm Sunday. In a statement, JTF spokesperson Chinonso Oteh described these claims as false and misleading, asserting that they do not reflect the actual sequence of events.

Oteh clarified that troops responded promptly and professionally to protect civilians, mobilizing to the scene despite the distance from their base. The JTF emphasized that their personnel acted professionally to prevent further escalation and pursued the assailants immediately.

Four gun trucks were deployed during the response operation, which was conducted in line with military standards. The military conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations, which they found baseless, and warned that such claims could undermine troop morale.

They urged the public to disregard unverified narratives and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace across Plateau State.
