AAC Files Lawsuit Against Tinubu Over Vacation Notification

The African Action Congress (AAC) has initiated legal action against President Bola Tinubu, the National Assembly, and the Attorney General of the Federation in the Federal High Court in Abuja. The lawsuit, filed on September 28, 2026, alleges that Tinubu breached Section 145(1) of the 1999 Constitution by not notifying the National Assembly before departing for a month-long vacation in Europe on August 30, 2026.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2358/2026, names Tinubu, the Attorney General, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the National Assembly as defendants. The AAC seeks a declaration that the President must transmit a written declaration to the Senate President and the Speaker before going on vacation.

Additionally, the party challenges the National Assembly's failure to authorize the Vice-President to act as President after Tinubu's absence exceeded 21 days. The AAC is also requesting a perpetual injunction against Tinubu from taking future vacations without the required notification.

The case was filed by Inibehe Effiong of Inibehe Effiong Chambers, and no hearing date has been set.
