EFCC Probes NFF Resignation Amid N12 Billion Fund Scandal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed its investigation into the spending of a N12 billion intervention fund approved in 2024 for Nigeria's national football teams will continue despite the resignation of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated that the inquiry would not be affected by the leadership changes.

NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, along with General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and other Executive Committee members, resigned after nearly four years in office, with 34 days remaining in his term. Gusau cited consultations with stakeholders for his decision, defending his tenure by highlighting coaching reforms and improved league stability.

However, his resignation follows significant pressure due to the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the ongoing complaints regarding unpaid salaries and bonuses. The NFF has declined to provide documents on fund usage, claiming they are with the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
