National Assembly Extends 2025 Capital Budget Deadline

On September 29, 2026, the National Assembly approved an extension of the implementation period for the 2025 capital budget to December 31, 2026. This decision was made during a plenary session led by House Leader Julius Ihonvbere and comes just before the expiration of the previous deadline of September 30, 2026.

The capital budget's implementation period has been extended multiple times since its original deadline of December 31, 2025, with prior extensions to March 31, June 30, and September 30. Lawmakers cited the need for additional time to complete several ongoing capital projects as the reason for the latest extension.

The Senate had also approved this extension. President Bola Tinubu previously indicated that these extensions would facilitate the full release of capital implementation funds to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and ensure the completion of critical infrastructure projects.
