Kaduna bye-election: PDP ex-guber candidate, Ashiru cautions INEC

Isa Mohammed Ashiru, a former Kaduna State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and law enforcement agencies to ensure a free, fair, and credible conduct of the August 16 bye-elections in Zaria Kewaye State Constituency and Basawa State Constituency. In a statement, Ashiru emphasized the need for stakeholders to ensure the credibility of the electoral process and prevent any compromise that could affect the outcome.

He stressed the importance of creating a conducive environment for eligible voters to exercise their rights without intimidation. Ashiru expressed concerns about allegations of planned rigging in favor of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and called for a transparent process to produce leaders accepted by the people.

He highlighted the responsibility of electoral officials and security agencies in guaranteeing a transparent election that would lead to credible leadership at all levels.
