Birnin Gwari Residents Protest After Bandit Attack

In Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, residents staged protests after a fresh attack by suspected bandits that resulted in the death of Mallam Ibrahim Adamu, a commercial driver, who was shot along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway. The attack also led to the abduction of five passengers.

The protests were fueled by rising fears of insecurity in the area, with community members expressing frustration over the failure of security measures to prevent such recurrent attacks. Despite ongoing reconciliation efforts and peace arrangements with armed groups, the community remains on edge, particularly after the recent killing of Adamu, which deepened tensions.

The protests also raised concerns about potential reprisals against Fulani herders in the area. Security operations were later deployed to restore calm, but the situation remains precarious, with reports of four farmers kidnapped in the Kurgi area, highlighting the deteriorating security situation along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari corridor.
