Kaduna Governor Orders Probe into LNG Bus Explosion

On April 5, 2023, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani ordered a multi-agency investigation into an explosion at the Kaduna Motor Park involving liquefied natural gas. Preliminary findings attributed the blast to a technical fault allegedly linked to an overfilled compressed natural gas tank.

Governor Sani assured residents that the incident was not security-related. The explosion was described as minor, with no casualties or significant property damage, and the situation was quickly brought under control.

Ahm Maiyaki, the state government spokesperson, emphasized that the explosion did not involve any explosive devices. The investigation aims to determine the remote cause of the explosion and ensure safety standards are upheld to prevent recurrence.

The Kaduna State Police Command, particularly its bomb disposal unit, was commended for its prompt response. Silver Luxury Travel, the company involved, disputed the preliminary findings and stated that the investigation is ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion.
