Nigeria Launches Smart Transport Project with NITT

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) announced the initiation of a smart transport project, which will commence in Kaduna, Borno, Lagos, and several other states. This project aims to create a National Transport Data Bank (NTDB) and was formalized with a concession agreement signed on Monday in Abuja by Dr.

Bayero Salih-Farah, the Director General of NITT, and Olusegun Omotola, the Director of Legal at the Ministry of Transport. The NTDB is designed to provide a unified, real-time source of transport mobility data across Nigeria, deploying intelligent transport technologies such as smart e-tag systems and traffic management centers.

The project will be implemented in phases, with the first phase focusing on integrating various modes of transport, including maritime, air, rail, and pipeline systems. The pilot phase will involve Kaduna, Lagos, Nasarawa, Borno, Enugu, Edo, and the Federal Capital Territory.

The initiative aims to enhance decision-making in transport policy and improve the overall efficiency and safety of Nigeria's transport sector.
