Kano Governor Approves Salary Increase for University Staff

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved a new salary review for both academic and non-academic staff at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, and Northwest University, Kano. This decision was announced in a statement by the governor's spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

The new salary structure, based on the Federal Government’s remuneration package for federal universities, will take effect from January 2026, with payments commencing in September 2026. The total monthly financial implication for the two universities is ₦391,847,555.24, amounting to ₦4,702,170,662.88 annually.

Specifically, Aliko Dangote University will incur ₦228,195,210.83 monthly, while Northwest University will incur ₦163,652,344.41. The government has also allocated ₦1,567,390,220.96 in the 2026 Supplementary Budget for payments from September to December 2026, with additional arrears planned for the 2027 Budget.

This initiative aims to ensure industrial harmony and improve staff welfare.
