Kano Assembly Forms Committee to Investigate Land Encroachment

The Kano State House of Assembly has constituted a seven-member special committee to investigate allegations of encroachment on agricultural lands belonging to the Kano State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA). The resolution followed a motion presented by Hon.

Ahmad Ibrahim, representing the Karay constituency, during a plenary session. Ibrahim expressed concerns over increasing attempts by individuals to illegally occupy lands owned by state agricultural agencies, attributing this to rapid urban expansion and rising commercial land values.

He highlighted specific cases, including encroachments in Kakara Village, Gezawa Local Government Area, and Kadawa in Garun Mallam Local Government Area, which are currently under police investigation. The committee, chaired by the chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, will have one month to investigate the allegations and submit a comprehensive report for further legislative action.

The committee includes representatives from various constituencies and aims to protect government agricultural assets from illegal occupation.
