Nigeria Targets 2,322 CNG Stations by 2027

The Federal Government of Nigeria has set a target to establish 2,322 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations nationwide by 2027. This initiative is part of efforts to deepen the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles and expand gas mobility infrastructure across the country.

Ismaeel Ahmed, the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, disclosed this during the Nigerian Oil and Gas Midstream Downstream Summit organized by the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board in Lagos. Currently, Nigeria has 72 active CNG refueling stations, with 175 more under development.

The government aims to convert 100,000 vehicles to run on CNG, significantly reducing transport costs for ordinary Nigerians. The initiative is expected to attract $1 billion in investment to the CNG sector.

Additionally, 5,600 technicians have been trained in CNG conversion technology to support this transition. The cost of CNG is significantly lower than petrol, making it a viable alternative for transportation.
