Kaduna's Free CNG Buses Save Residents ₦3.5 Billion

In the past year, the Kaduna state government's free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mass transit scheme has benefited 3.2 million commuters, saving residents over ₦3.5 billion in transportation costs. Engr.

Inuwa Ibrahim, the acting Managing Director of Kaduna Line and acting Director-General of the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA), announced these figures while inspecting newly constructed CNG bus stops. The initiative, introduced by Governor Uba Sani's administration, aims to alleviate the impact of rising transportation costs by offering safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly public transport.

Currently, 100 CNG-powered buses operate free of charge on major routes, with 200 modern bus stops under construction, over 80% of which are completed. The buses are equipped with Intelligent Transport System (ITS) devices for real-time monitoring.

The service is set to expand to Zaria and Kafanchan once new CNG refuelling stations are operational. This mass transit program is a flagship project of the Uba Sani administration, focusing on reducing transportation costs and promoting cleaner energy.
