Kano State Leads Nigeria with Over 441,000 New Voters

Kano State has emerged as the leading state in Nigeria for new voter registrations, recording a total of 441,845 registrants as of June 15, 2026. This figure was presented by Dr.

Aliyu Isa Aliyu, chair of the Kano State Commission for Livestock Development, during a report to the subcommittee on ICT data collection. The achievement underscores a growing level of political awareness and civic engagement among residents, driven by sustained voter mobilization efforts and public awareness campaigns initiated by the state government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

A voter registration task force was established to encourage eligible residents, particularly youth, to register and participate actively in the democratic process. The breakdown of registration figures across the state’s 44 local government areas reveals significant disparities, with Bichi local government area recording the highest number of new registrants at 30,806.

The report emphasizes the importance of youth participation in this surge and recommends intensified voter education campaigns in areas with lower registration figures.
