Kano Senator Rufai Sani Hanga Resigns from NDC

Rufai Sani Hanga, the senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District, resigned from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) effective August 3, 2026. His resignation letter, addressed to the NDC Ward Chairman in Dakata Ward, Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, indicated that the decision followed “careful reflection and personal deliberation.” Hanga stated he was leaving the party to pursue other personal commitments and career paths.

He expressed gratitude to the ward leadership and members for their support during his tenure. Hanga requested the removal of his name from the party’s membership register and attached his official NDC membership card to the resignation letter.

His resignation came just days after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, which sparked speculation about his political future. Previously, in May, Hanga had defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) due to internal crises and had reaffirmed his membership in the NDC following his meeting with Tinubu.
