Kano State Halts Tree Cutting at State TV Station

The Kano State government has ordered an immediate halt to the indiscriminate cutting of trees within the premises of the state-owned Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) after a viral video surfaced showing the unauthorized felling of trees. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Commissioner for Information, disclosed this during an unscheduled visit to the station on Saturday.

Ameen Yassar Waiya, the Director of the Kano State Ministry of Information, stated that the actions contradicted the government's environmental protection policies aimed at combating climate change. He warned that any future tree removal must receive official approval after consulting relevant government agencies.

The government expressed concern over the depletion of natural resources and its serious environmental consequences. Additionally, the station has been struggling to meet viewer expectations due to outdated content and poor quality, which has affected its competitiveness in the media landscape.

The governor's administration, led by Abba Kabir Yusuf, aims to prioritize digital innovation and modern operational practices across sectors, seeking comprehensive upgrades for the station.
