Kano's Livestock Sector Transformed by Digital Innovation

On July 4, 2026, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Minister of State for Livestock Development, conducted a second-day working visit to Kano State, where he unveiled the Kano State Livestock Information Management System. This digital platform is designed to enhance the efficiency of livestock management and improve animal health services.

Maiha highlighted the federal government's commitment to transforming Nigeria's livestock sector through digital innovation and private sector-led growth. He urged Kano State to expand the platform to capture comprehensive information across the livestock value chain.

During his visit, he also inspected the Kanotan Tanneries and discussed the potential of Nigeria's leather industry, noting that the country produces 50 million hides and skins annually but has historically lost export opportunities. The Minister emphasized the need for local processing of leather goods to create jobs and wealth, projecting significant growth in the leather market by 2033.
