Katsina State Denies Teacher Recruitment Under TESS Project

The Katsina State Government has refuted allegations that the 2,158 teachers recently recruited were engaged under the Transforming Education Systems at State Level (TESS) project. Hon.

Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, clarified that the recruitment was a direct initiative of the state government, conducted through a transparent process. Although the TESS project office was used to distribute appointment letters, the recruitment was entirely financed by the Katsina State Government.

Jibia emphasized that the teachers are being processed to become full civil servants and are not TESS staff. He described TESS as a time-bound educational intervention and stated that the recruitment aimed to fill manpower gaps in public schools, with vacancies advertised according to individual school needs.

Additionally, he mentioned ongoing construction of Special Model Secondary schools in Jikamshi and Dumurku, set to be completed in three months, and contracts awarded for new secondary schools to enhance educational access in underserved communities.
