Katsina Tertiary Institutions Suspend Strike Over Salary Demands

Katsina's state-owned tertiary institutions, including Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Isa Kaita College of Education, and others, have suspended a two-week warning strike. The Chairman of the Joint Consult Forum, Dr.

Muhammad Nasir Gidado, announced the strike suspension after the government's refusal to meet demands, such as a 35% and 25% salary increment for staff. The forum also requested the implementation of a proper salary structure and placement.

The strike, declared on January 12, 2026, aimed to address issues like unsympathetic fee increases and low student enrollment. The forum emphasized the need for immediate action to resolve these issues and ensure the welfare of students and staff.

Negotiations are set to begin promptly to address the lingering concerns.
