KDI Trains Southeast CSOs to Enhance Civic Space Monitoring

Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) organized a training program in Enugu for civil society organizations (CSOs) from five southeastern states, aimed at strengthening civic space monitoring through local data systems. The program is part of a national rollout across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, designed to equip participants with skills and tools for effective data application.

KDI's Executive Director, Bukola Idowu, emphasized the need for Nigeria to develop homegrown verified data on human rights issues, reducing reliance on foreign sources that may exaggerate the situation. The initiative seeks to create a platform for citizens to anonymously report human rights infringements, thereby providing relevant stakeholders with accurate information to address civic space challenges.

Senior Program Manager Abiodun Banjoko noted the ongoing shrinkage of civic space in Nigeria, while Professor Jaja Nwanegbo praised the online platform as a commendable initiative to expand civic participation. The program aims to foster collaboration among institutions to ensure informed responses to human rights issues.
