Finland Backs Morocco's Autonomy Plan for Sahara Issue

On Sunday, Morocco's Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita announced Finland's support for Morocco's autonomy plan concerning the Sahara issue. This statement followed a meeting with Finland's Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen during her official visit to Morocco.

Finland reiterated its backing for the autonomy plan, which Morocco considers a serious and credible contribution to the UN-led political process aimed at achieving a mutually accepted political solution. Both ministers welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025), reaffirming support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's envoy to reach a just and mutually accepted political resolution regarding the Sahara issue.

The European Union has already shown strong support for Morocco's autonomy plan, with 27 EU member states agreeing that genuine autonomy is among feasible solutions for the final resolution of the regional dispute.
