ISPON to Enforce Safety Regulations for Heavy Trucks

The Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), Kogi State chapter, announced that it will begin strict enforcement of safety regulations for heavy-duty trucks starting August 31. Elder Friday Makama, the chairman of ISPON and Chief Consultant on Kogi State Safety Standard Regulations and Compliance, raised concerns during a press briefing in Lokoja regarding the persistent violations by truck operators on the Barracks Road corridor leading to GYB Junction.

He noted that heavy-duty trucks are illegally using Barracks Road instead of the designated House of Assembly Road, which is designed for such vehicles. This misuse has resulted in rapid deterioration and structural damage to the road, posing risks to public safety.

Makama warned that any heavy-duty truck found on Barracks Road after the enforcement begins will be arrested. He urged transport unions and haulage companies to ensure compliance with the directive for the sake of public safety and infrastructure preservation.
