Kogi State Compensates Victims of Demolition Exercise

The Kogi State Government has compensated victims affected by a demolition exercise conducted on 15th January 2026 in Idojie-Okene, Okene Local Government Area. This action aimed to eliminate criminal hideouts and restore peace in the community.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, represented by Kehinde Augustine Salihu-Otaru, the Director General of the Bureau of Lands, presented cheques to 23 affected shop owners during a ceremony in Lokoja. The demolitions were necessary due to the structures being used by hoodlums for criminal activities, raising safety concerns.

The compensation was structured to cover both the demolished shops and the goods lost, distributed in a 70 to 30 percent ratio. Salihu-Otaru emphasized the government's commitment to addressing genuine complaints and urged beneficiaries to utilize the funds responsibly.

Alhaji Aliyu Asuku Bello Sambell, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude for the governor's support, highlighting an initial relief of N350,000 provided to them.
