Kogi State to Relocate Residents for Development Agenda

The Kogi State Government has initiated plans to compensate and relocate residents of Idogido-Orietesu and Asuwe clan communities in Okene Local Government Area, as part of a new development agenda aimed at transforming socio-economic activities in the region. Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, represented by Kehinde Augustine Salihu-Otaru, Director General of the Bureau of Lands, stated that approximately 35 ancestral land title holders behind the new central mosque under construction at Idogido-Orietesu will be compensated and relocated.

Ongoing negotiations with landowners in Asuwe clan are focused on finalizing compensation modalities. The government has assessed the land and mapped out a new relocation site, with road construction already in progress.

The state government aims to complete the new homes by December 2026, ensuring necessary infrastructure is in place. Community leaders have confirmed their approval for the government to proceed with the development, which is expected to enhance the livelihoods of the affected residents.
