Teacher Beaten to Death After Disciplining Pupil

On June 17, 2026, Maryam Usman, a teacher, was involved in disciplining a pupil for misconduct at a primary school in Ugbamaka. Following this, the pupil's father, Ishaq Abdullahi, allegedly attacked Usman at her residence, leading to severe injuries.

The assault continued on June 18, with additional individuals involved, resulting in Usman being unconscious and requiring medical attention. She was initially treated at a clinic and later transferred to a hospital in Okpo, where her condition deteriorated, and she passed away on June 25, 2026.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the ongoing investigation into the incident, with a spokesperson stating that preliminary investigations indicated that Abdullahi, accompanied by two women, assaulted Usman. The police are working to apprehend the suspects, and the case will be transferred to the state criminal investigation department for a thorough investigation.
