Three Arrested in Kogi Teacher Mariam Usman's Murder

The Kogi State Police Command announced the arrest of three suspects linked to the murder of Mariam Usman, a teacher at Brain Mind Nursery Primary School in Ugbamaka, Olamaboro Local Government Area. The arrests were confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the command's spokesperson, ASP Oyiza Afusat.

The investigation began following a complaint received on June 25, 2026, after Usman succumbed to injuries sustained from an assault. The inquiry revealed that on June 17, 2026, Abdullahi Isiaka assaulted Usman due to disciplinary action she had taken against his 11-year-old son during school hours.

Following this, on June 18, 2026, Ojonojima Mari, the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, attacked Usman at her workplace. Usman was initially treated at Grace Clinic in Ugbamaka but was later referred to a clinic in Okpo, where she ultimately died from her injuries.

The police have established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the suspects, who will be arraigned in court. Kogi State Police Commissioner Nazir Kankarofi commended the homicide section for their diligence in the investigation.
