Teacher Dies After Assault for Disciplining Pupil

Maryam Usman, a 30-year-old primary school teacher, died on June 25, 2026, after succumbing to injuries sustained during an assault on June 18, 2026. The assault occurred at the Brain Mind Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, Olamaboro Local Government Area, Kogi State, when Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, allegedly attacked her for disciplining a pupil.

Following the incident, Usman was initially treated at a local hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko Ojo Hospital for further medical attention, where she ultimately passed away. The Kogi State Police Command, through spokesperson Oyiza Salisu Afusat, confirmed that a culpable homicide report was filed at the Olamaboro Division Police Headquarters on June 25.

Detectives visited the scene and the deceased's residence to document the incident, and arrangements were made for an autopsy at Ankpa General Hospital. The suspects reportedly fled the scene, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them, with the case set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation.
