Kwara 2027: Vote Split Predicted as APC, ADC Choose Locals

Dr. Abubakar Lasiel, a political scientist and former senior lecturer at the University of Ilorin, has predicted a vote split in the upcoming 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.

This prediction arises from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) both selecting candidates from Baruten Local Government Area. Lasiel argues that this decision will lead to a division of votes within their political bases, particularly between Engr.

Yakubu Danladi of the APC and Hon. Zakari Moham of the ADC, both of whom are strong grassroots politicians.

He notes that this situation could favor Hon. Zakari, who has prior political exposure and represents the Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Lasiel also criticizes the political parties for not focusing on independent electoral values and questions their choice of candidates without the backing of incumbents. Additionally, he condemned the use of Eid prayer grounds for political campaigns, urging political actors to respect these sacred spaces.
