Kwara Monarch Abducted Last Month Dies in Captivity

A monarch abducted in Kwara State last month has died in captivity. Efforts to secure his release included a ransom payment of 21 million naira, two brand new motorcycles, and jerrycans of petrol, but despite these concessions, the captors allegedly continued to hold him until news of his death emerged.

The cause of death remains unclear. The Kwara State Police Command expressed doubt about the report of the monarch's death, labeling the information as unverifiable.

Hadji Femi Yusuf, the chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area, stated he had not received any official brief on the matter. However, Chief Omisola Amo Olayinka of the Ifelodun Traditional Council confirmed the monarch's death during a telephone interview.

The community is in mourning, and there are concerns about the ongoing security challenges in Kwara State, particularly related to kidnapping and banditry, despite government interventions.
