Urgent Call for Rescue of 176 Abducted in Kwara Attack

The Kaiama Development Association (KDA) and the Batombu Unity and Development Initiative have urged the federal and Kwara State governments to urgently rescue 176 individuals abducted during a terrorist attack on February 3, 2026, in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area. During a press conference in Abuja, Alhaji Umar Gunu, President of the KDA Abuja Branch, expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in Kaiama and Baruten LGAs, where over 500 people have reportedly been killed since the beginning of 2026.

Gunu emphasized that the communities have suffered decades of neglect, lacking direct road access to Ilorin, the state capital, which exacerbates the security crisis. He stated that the poor road infrastructure hampers the movement of security personnel while facilitating attacks by armed groups.

Nearly six months after the attack, families of the victims have received no meaningful updates regarding their loved ones or rescue efforts, marking the incident as one of the darkest chapters in the region's recent history.
