Security Experts Warn of Potential Terror Spillover to Southwest Nigeria

Security strategists have raised concerns about the possibility of a spillover of violence from the North to the Southwest of Nigeria following a deadly attack in Kwara State. The attack, which resulted in the killing of at least 176 residents, highlighted the growing presence of Boko Haram factions and allied armed groups operating in the Kainji National Park area.

Experts warn that the failure of the federal government to dismantle terror enclaves could lead to jihadist attacks spreading to major cities in the Southwest within months. The Kainji National Park, spanning Kwara and Niger States, has reportedly been transformed into a hideout for jihadist groups and criminal networks, covering 5,340 square kilometers of dense forest and rocky terrain.

Security analysts attribute the escalating violence to the establishment of sleeper cells exploiting weak governance and launching major attacks. Former military officials have criticized the government's counter-terrorism strategies, urging urgent intelligence-driven operations to address the security challenges.
