Kwara State Launches Anti-Snake Fumigation Initiative

The Kwara State government has directed an immediate statewide anti-snake fumigation exercise across residential buildings and institutions as a measure to safeguard residents from the growing threat of snake attacks. This directive was issued by the Kwara State Environment Protection Agency on Saturday, following reports of increased snake bite incidents in the state.

Aliyu Amod, the press secretary of the agency, stated that property owners and operators of regulated premises are expected to comply without delay. Jide Aina, the general manager of the agency, highlighted that this decision is part of broader precautionary efforts aimed at reducing the likelihood of snake encounters in populated areas.

The fumigation exercise is intended to diminish the presence of snakes around homes, schools, and offices. Additionally, Aina urged residents to maintain proper sanitation and waste disposal practices to discourage reptiles from inhabiting their properties.

This initiative comes amid national concerns regarding snake bite incidents and the availability of antivenom treatment, following the death of Ifunanya Nwangen, a 25-year-old Nigerian singer, who was bitten by a cobra.
