Kwara State Warns Against Open Burning, Plans Mandatory Fire Extinguishers for Residents

Kwara State has issued a cautionary statement through Jide Aina, the General Manager of the Kwara State Environment Protection Agency (KWEPA), urging residents to avoid open burning due to the serious risks it poses to lives, properties, and the environment. Following recent fire incidents across the state, Aina highlighted the need for residents and businesses to adhere strictly to safety guidelines and adopt precautionary measures to prevent fire disasters.

The state plans to enforce mandatory fire extinguishers in residential buildings to enhance fire safety measures. Failure to comply may lead to sanctions under existing environmental safety laws.

Recent fire outbreaks, including one that claimed the life of a 73-year-old man, Pastor Awolola Irewoled in Ilorin, have emphasized the importance of proactive fire prevention measures.
