Professor Olaniyi Becomes First VC of Abdulrasaq Abubakar Toyin University

Abdulrasaq Abubakar Toyin University (AATU) appointed Professor Olayemi Mikail Olaniyi as its first substantive Vice-Chancellor, with the appointment approved by the university’s Board of Trustees and ratified on September 4, 2026. Professor Olaniyi, 47, is a Professor of Computer Engineering with two decades of experience in various fields including computer security and applied medical informatics.

He holds a National Diploma in Computer Technology from the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, a Bachelor of Technology and a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, and an M.Sc. in Electronic and Computer Engineering from Lagos State University. He has previously served in several administrative roles at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, and was Dean of the Faculty of Computing at the National Open University of Nigeria prior to his new role.

The university also recently received approval for 15 additional programs for the 2026/2027 academic session.
