Labour Party Elects Yawal Abubakar as Sokoto Chairman

The Labour Party conducted a state congress in Sokoto on Saturday, where Yawal Abubakar was elected as the new state chairman. The election process, overseen by the chairman of the electoral committee, Prof.

Mahmud Muhammad, involved delegates from 23 local government areas and was characterized as peaceful, orderly, and credible, reflecting the party's commitment to internal democratic values. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was present to observe the proceedings.

In his acceptance speech, Abubakar committed to expanding grassroots engagement and fostering inclusive leadership within the party, while criticizing the state government for rising hardships, unemployment, insecurity, and increasing living costs. He outlined plans to strengthen the party's structure and empower youth and women, focusing on issue-based campaigns in preparation for the next electoral cycle.

Aminu Umar, the party's 2023 governorship candidate, commended the conduct of the congress and urged the new leadership to ensure unity and accountability within the party.
